      Program Description:

We live in America’s most generous state.  Millions of Oklahomans give billions annually to care for our neighbors and improve our quality of life.  It’s the Oklahoma Standard.

Standards accompany every gift made by a donor to a nonprofit.  Donors have absolute rights and nonprofits have immutable responsibilities.  Whether you’re a donor or on staff or volunteer for a nonprofit, you’ll learn more about ethical standards that govern these transactions.  You’ll learn how we can build trust to ensure Oklahoma’s tradition of voluntarily giving for the common good.

      Key Takeaways:

      • Understand the charitable sector’s economic impact in Oklahoma
      • Take a deep dive into the Donor Bill of Rights
      • Develop ideas about ethical responsibilities of all nonprofits

      About the Speaker:

Phil Lakin, Jr. has led Tulsa Community Foundation (TCF), the second largest community foundation in the United States, since its formation.  Phil works with TCF’s Board of Trustees to set the strategic vision for TCF and supervises both long-term goals and daily activities. Lakin is passionate about his work with donors, community leaders and elected officials to improve the Tulsa area and serves the City of Tulsa as the Tulsa City Councilor for District 8, comprising much of south Tulsa. Phil is past president of the Rotary Club of Tulsa and serves on the boards of many national and regional not-for-profit entities.

Phil is a native Tulsan and a graduate of Jenks High School. He earned his BBA and MBA from Baylor University. Before joining TCF, Phil worked for Baylor University’s Office of Development, managing development efforts for northeastern Texas and six additional states. He and his wife, Adriane, have three sons. Phil is one of ~50 individuals who has climbed all 70+ peaks in the continental US that exceed 14,000 feet.

          Program Description:

Incivility can fracture a team, splintering members’ sense of psychological safety and hampering team effectiveness. Dr. Christine Porath will discuss how civility and trust can improve performance and enhance team science: by reciprocating respectful actions, we can create a more inclusive climate, and enable greater trust and collaboration. She will discuss the importance of self-awareness and share recommendations and skills for improving communication across differences. Porath will also provide insights on what we can do to boost our effectiveness in helping to create a thriving environment grounded in your organization or your values.

          Key Takeaways:

          1. List three costs of incivility (e.g., mental health, performance, stress) and three benefits of civility (e.g., inclusion, collaboration, performance) to clients, their teams, and their organizations.

          2. Describe one method for helping a person, clinician, or leader reflect on how civil they are so they are able to link the consequences to their actions.

          3. Discuss how rudeness, incivility and negativity is contagious based on scientific evidence.

          4. Provide individuals with several antidotes to incivility to better cope with the effects on them and those they interact with.

          About the Speaker:

Christine Porath is a professor at Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on how to help people and communities thrive.

Her speaking and consulting clients include Google, United Nations, Microsoft, World Bank, World Health Organization, International Monetary Fund, National Institute of Health, Cleveland Clinic, Southwest, MD Anderson, Department of Labor, Department of the Treasury, and Department of Justice.

Christine is a frequent contributor to the Harvard Business Review, and written for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post. She has taught in various Executive programs at Harvard, Georgetown, and the University of Southern California (USC). Porath is author of Mastering Community, and Mastering Civility and co-author of The Cost of Bad Behavior.

Before getting her Ph.D., she worked for International Management Group (IMG), a leading sports management and marketing firm. Porath received her Ph.D. from Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned her bachelor's degree in economics from College of the Holy Cross where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa as well as the women’s basketball and soccer teams.

              Coming soon!

              About the Speaker:

Ashley Plyushko's journey to becoming the Executive Director of the Oklahoma Accountancy Board is a testament to her extensive career in both municipal and state government. Armed with degrees in history and political science from Oklahoma Baptist University and accounting from Colorado State University – Global Campus, Ashley embarked on a path that led her through various roles.

After a brief stint as a Legislative Assistant in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, Ashley transitioned to the Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES) as a budget analyst in the Statewide Budget Division where she initially worked as the budget analyst for the Health and Human Services cabinet, followed by the Education cabinet. Her commitment and passion for state finance led her to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in 2017.

Ashley's municipal experience includes serving as the Assistant Finance Director for the City of Shawnee and eventually rising to the position of Finance Director and City Treasurer. While in that role, she spearheaded initiatives to enhance financial transparency by making budgetary information accessible to the public. Her efforts ensured that taxpayers could easily track how their funds were allocated and utilized. Prior to her current role, she held the position of State Chief Financial Officer for OMES.

During her time as the Executive Director of the Oklahoma Accountancy Board, several initiatives have been launched to modernize communications, reach Oklahoma’s CPAs and CPAs-to-be, and lower barriers. As an active speaker, she works to communicate the Board’s mission in universities, society chapters, and other venues.
