        Program Description:

As one of the most regulated industries in the world, aviation operations are expected to meet the highest standards of safety to ensure the wellbeing of people in the air and the protection of people on the ground. Airports play a critical role in the aviation ecosystem by providing standardized facilities for flight operations and development that supports the industry. The CEO of Tulsa International Airport and Tulsa Riverside Airport will provide an overview of Tulsa’s aviation framework along with the ethical standards and leadership required to maintaining a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability in airport management.

        Key Takeaways:

        • Understanding of Tulsa’s aviation assets, how they are funded and how FAA regulations determine what can and cannot be developed on airport property.
        • Accountability through the lens of an airport operator: FAA/TSA (Part 139 inspections, AvSec 1542, SMS), State (land use), Local (land use), Tenants (buildings, leases, use) and Passengers (screening, behavior)
        • How the organization’s core values (SOAR: Safety, Opportunity, Attitude, Responsibility) are embedded in our culture and how we measure our commitment to delivering results that matter to our employees and customers.

        About the Speaker:
Ms. Higgins has been with the Tulsa Airports Improvement Trust for over 20 years and was named Chief Executive Officer in March 2019 after serving previously as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Director of Marketing & Community Relations. Program Description:

Art will lead us in an interactive examination of how our values can bias our thinking in ways that undermine our efforts to be ethical leaders.

          Key Takeaways:

Our values are often at the core of our identity, and they are vital to our ability to make ethical decisions. However, without self reflection and critical thinking, they can also be the source of unfair judgement and unconscious bias, which can undermine our efforts to be ethical leaders and to create an empowering work environment for our people.

He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Masters in National Security Studies from Georgetown University. Art taught at the Naval Academy for over 10 years, first as the Associate Chair of the Political Science Department, and later as a Permanent Military Professor of Leadership and Ethics and Chair of the Leader Development and Research Department. He taught courses in American Government, U.S. National Security Policy, Leadership, and Ethics, and directed the institution’s Experiential Leader Development programs, including the flagship Gettysburg Leadership Encounter for Brigade leaders. He has published articles and essays on the U.S. military mission in Afghanistan, organizational change, and leadership development, and edited the textbook for the Academy’s first-year leadership course. He has presented on ethical leadership to organizations as diverse as Naval Sea Systems Command, Maryland World Class Consortia, and OK Ethics. Art lives near Annapolis with his wife, three teenagers, and their dog, and coaches people to financial success as a financial advisor with First Command Financial Services. About the Speaker:

Nathan holds a B.A. in Accounting from Gustavus Adolphus College and was a licensed CPA from 2002-2010. He has over 13 years of public accounting experience and 15 years of corporate accounting experience with a focus on financial reporting, cash processing, tax, and accounting controls.

After the reinsurance company Nathan worked for was purchased by ING for $6 billion, he played a key role in transitioning its operations onto ING’s enterprise resource planning system. Enabled by lax controls and unchecked authority to distribute funds, Nathan began embezzling money to pay off personal debt. What started as a $1,100 check to a credit card, spiraled into an $8.5 million fraud over the next four years. It was only a co-worker’s suspicions that brought the fraud to an end. After being caught, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 97 months in federal prison. He was released in September of 2014.

While serving his sentence, Nathan delivered over 60 speeches to a broad spectrum of groups & organizations including college classes, businesses, business organizations and non-profits. Since his release from prison in 2014 he has become a sought-after speaker for Fraud and Ethics presentations for diverse and notable organizations across the United States. His most noteworthy presentation to date was the keynote speech at the ACFE Global Fraud Conference 2015 in Baltimore with upwards of 3,000 attendees. Nathan has spoken for several governmental agencies including the FBI, the FDIC, the FFIEC and the Federal Reserve Bank. Nathan has done fraud awareness presentations for Best Buy, General Mills, and Nationwide Insurance to name a few. He also speaks frequently for many organizations including the IIA, ACFE, IMA, HFMA, IASA, ISACA, ACAMS and state CPA societies.

Speaking and training are not the only avenues Nathan has pursued to bring fraud and ethics awareness to all industries. He also co-authored "Lessons From An $8 Million Fraud" in the Journal of Accountancy which won the prestigious Lawler Award as the article of the year for 2015.
